The Garden of Senses

The second exhibition is held in the garden of St Antoine Church, which is a basilica and the largest Roman Catholic Church of Istanbul.

Placed at the entrance garden of the church, the exhibition shows five emblematic works of five important sculptors: Ayla Turan, Cem Sağbil, Jake Michael Singer, Kemal Tufan, Sinan Polvan

Curator Sinan Polvan explains the experience :

“For most people, art consists only of sensual stimuli and pleasures; for others, it is a language in which the human soul illuminates the world they live in. Art is a means of expression that stimulates the senses and activates the emotions of a whole view of life with acquired experiences.’’

About St. Antoine
The original St. Anthony of Padua Church was built in 1725 by the local Italian community of Istanbul. It was later demolished and in 1912 the building was reconstructed by the Istanbulite Levantine architect Giulio Mongeri in Neo- Gothic style on the same location.

Today, the church is visited by locals and tourists, with almost 3.000 visitors a day.
