Attila Durak

Attila Durak is born in 1967 in Gümüşhane. The artist lives and works in İstanbul .

He studied Economics at Ortadoğu Technical University , in 1997 he moved to New York and studied at New York International Center of Photography, School of Visual Arts and Fine Arts at New York Hunter College. His portfolio includes social  documentaries in various countries and experimental photography and printing techniques. 

Among his important projects  “Ebru” depicts Turkeys multi- cultural social identity as an ethnographic series of photographs and book.  This long lasting project has gone around the world and reached over 300.000 people.  

Durak has been the founder of FotoIstanbul Festival (2014-2018) that brought together many talented young local and international photographers in the historical context of the city. 

Istanbul-NewYork based photographer Attila Durak’s “Echoes of the Street” series is displayed here. This series take as their subject the street performers of New York. Durak’s work portrays these pedestrian artists of the everyday in a series of vivid, manually manipulated Polaroid plates that draw their experiential force from unusual color effect, simulated patterns, and ambiguous association.

The photographer states:  “My interest in experimenting with color and various printing techniques resulted in ‘Echoes of the Street’, a series on the street artists of New York City. Human profiles, life styles and diversity define the energy of a metropolis.”
